Seminar Description: 

This class is the second in a series of seminars on the five primary religions: Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam.  Our facilitator, Rabbi David Shneyer, is director of the Am Kolel Sanctuary and Renewal Center in Beallsville, MD.  He also is a trans-denominational rabbi, affiliated with Aleph: an Alliance for Jewish Renewal.  Rabbi Shneyer is a member of Rabbis for Human Rights, and he is actively involved in many interfaith organizations for peace and justice.  He also is a student of the Kabbalah and a composer and singer of new Jewish liturgical folk music.  

Students will learn:

·         How the Jewish religion was formed

·         The primary prophets of the Jewish faith

·         The Jewish version of “End Times” (in which the Earth is NOT destroyed)

·         Whether progressive Jews believe that God has a “chosen people”

·         Challenges facing the Jewish people in the 21^st Century

In keeping with the unification goals of The Oracle Institute, our facilitator will incorporate Jewish teachings, stories, and songs from the Hassidic tradition and the Jewish Renewal Movement to expand our concept of God.  We also will explore how Judaism may be incorporated into a more pluralistic approach for understanding each other and communing with the Supreme Being.  For more information about Rabbi Shneyer: visit www.Am-Kolel.org and www.SanctuaryRetreatCenter.com.
