First Solstice Ceremony at the Peace Pentagon

On June 21, 2013, the Unitarian Universalist Community of Independence (UUCI) held its regularly scheduled (3rd Friday of the month) service at the Peace Pentagon. The basement of the Peace Pentagon – the exterior pentagon – is now fully framed and the main floor is installed. So we were able to meet where the actual chapel – the interior pentagon – soon will be built!

UUCI is a lay-led congregation. We invite guest speakers or, sometimes, we just sit in circle and talk, as we did on the Summer Solstice. The topic for the evening was our “evolving concept of God.” It was heartwarming to hear peoples’ stories of being raised in one religious tradition and then exploring, pushing and prodding toward greater truths about the Divine. And it was awe-inspiring to watch the sunset and then see the full moon rise over the New River!

Soon, we hope to meet INSIDE the Peace Pentagon, which is a PassivHaus® structure being built in Independence, Virginia. We are actively fundraising for the amount needed to complete the interior of the structure. If you are so inclined, there is a donate button on the Oracle Hearth and Home page.
