Recently, the front cover of a well-respected magazine, The Economist, queried: “Gendercide: What Happened to 100 Million Baby Girls?”
The answer, it turns out, is that sex-selective abortion and female infanticide are now common practices in many countries. In fact, during the past decade the survival differential has become alarming, with as many as 125 boys born for every 100 girls. With second births, the stats in some regions climb to 146 boys born for every 100 girls. And for third births, the numbers skyrocket as high as 227 boys born for every 100 girls.
The net result: frustrated, graying bachelors; very few little sisters; and a marked increase in violence and crimes in those countries where males increasingly outnumber females. In sum, there is a “worldwide war” on baby girls, according to The Economist.
.So why the war against women? Don’t blame poverty, since the research shows that it is the more affluent families who are more likely to kill their daughters. And don’t point to population control measures, although the one baby rule in China certainly has added to the female abortion and murder rates. No, this horror stems mainly from cultural and religious preferences … what I call “The Trickle Down Deity Theory.”
In a nutshell, this theory posits that as a direct consequence of idolizing anthropomorphic male deities for the past few thousand years, human females have suffered mightily. Indeed, institutionalized religious patriarchy is likely the most misogynistic construct created by man, as it demoralizes women by ascribing to us some mythical “original sin,” it forces us to wear black burqas in 120 degree desert heat, and it coerces us into killing our own offspring. Not surprisingly, suicide is now the most common form of death for rural Chinese women, who cannot live with the guilt of having killed their baby girls. And don’t even get me started on the most abominable religious edifice of them all – the all-male bastion of moral corruption and spiritual hypocrisy known as the Vatican.
The Economist quotes an old Hindu saying in its article on female gendercide: “Raising a daughter is like watering your neighbor’s lawn.” How odd … and how perverse? But what can we expect from a culture that still views humans as born into defined castes? And what can we expect from a religion that was created approximately 5,000 years ago?
More to the point, what can we expect from any religion that views God as a male deity? The subjugation of women begins with the trickle down effects of such a limited view of the Godhead (which includes only one special, celibate son in the case of Christianity).
If we women wish to take our rightful place as co-creators on the Earth plane, then we had better start acknowledging that feminine energy is represented in the Ethereal plane. And we had better update our view of God to include the Sacred Feminine. To learn more about the Trickle Down Deity Theory, read The Truth: About the Five Primary Religions, published by Oracle Press.
